WORKSHOPS Swansea Print Workshop runs regular courses and workshops for people at all levels, from the complete beginner to the professional artist or practised printmaker. Come and learn to print - courses for all ages and ability You don’t have to be able to draw ! We can design a course for you or your group if you do not see what you want in our current programme. 3 Colour Reduction Monotype: Rose Davies Sunday 21 September 10.30 am to 5.00 pm Level: Intermediate This is an Intermediate level course for artists who draw and it is a spectacular method of creating full colour images using reduction monotype techniques onto Perspex, pioneered by Indian / American printmaker Vinita Voogd. The results give an extraordinary range of colours from pure white to beautiful inky velvet black and every colour imaginable in between. Previous experience of reduction monotype or reduction block printing is recommended. The cost of this 1 day workshop is £ 50 full member; £55 ordinary member; £60 non member. 6 places available Screenprinting Textiles: Bill Chambers Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September 10.00 am to 4.00 pm Level: All This workshop will look at a few of the techniques common to textile printing. Participants will be taken through the process of creating a digital positive and exposing it to a silk-screen. There will then be demonstrations and practical sessions exploring common textile screen-printing techniques including: Monotype, Puff binder, Mahler foil, Pattern repeat, Pigment dye transfer At the end of this course, participants will have made a number of unique printed textile pieces. The cost of this 2 day workshop is £80 full members; £85 ordinary members; £90 non- members. 6 spaces available Cyanotype: Kara Seaman Tuesday 30 September and Tuesday 7 October 10.30 am to 3.30 pm Level: Beginner The Cyanotype process is one of the first photographic processes developed over one hundred and fifty years ago, and it will produce a blue print on different surfaces, such as papers and natural fabrics. This workshop provides an introduction to the techniques, using a wide range of images and sources. Participants are required to bring both negative and positive photographic images in black and white and photocopied onto clear acetate, and a range of flat objects, such as lace, feathers, or anything participants think may be suitable. Please contact the workshop if further details are required. The cost of this 2 day workshop is £ 55 full members; £60 ordinary members; £65 non- members. 8 places available Lino Etch: Ruth Parmiter Friday 10 October 10.00 am to 5.00 pm Level: All This workshop gives participants the opportunity to explore non- traditional relief lino blocks. Prints will have much more spontaneous looking mark making. The cost of this 1 day workshop is £50 full members; £55 ordinary members; £60 non- members. 6 places available Collagraph: Kara Seaman Tuesday 21 October and Tuesday 28 October 10.30 am to 3.30 pm Level: Beginner This workshop will enable participants to make prints from various collage materials which are stuck on to a base plate. The plate is then inked and passed through the press leaving an impression of the materials as a print. We shall also look at chine colle, a technique of placing coloured papers into the print. The cost of this 2 day workshop is £65 full members; £70 ordinary members; £75 non-members. 8 places available Photo Screenprinting: Kara Seaman Friday 31 October and Friday 7 November 10.30 am to 3.30 pm Level: Beginner This course will show participants how to expose their images onto a screen and the techniques for printing them onto paper. it is an excellent process for muilti-coloured work and layering effects. The cost of this 2 day workshop is £75 full members; £80 ordinary members; £85 non-members. 6 places available Advanced 3 Colour Reduction Monotype: Rose Davies Sunday 2 November 10.30 am to 5.00 pm Level: Advanced This is an advanced level one day workshop for those who have done an intermediate level course in three-colour reduction monotype and want to push it further. Using drawn, painted, photographic and computer-generated imagery, the workshop offers the opportunity to experiment with different ink densities, colours and drawing materials, and gives in-depth consideration to composition, tone, line and texture. It’s really pushing the technique to its limits. The workshop will also cover professional practice and will give an illustrated talk on the technique along with a full-colour technical notepack. There is a maximum of 5 places so early booking is advised. The cost of this 1 day workshop is £ 50 full member; £55 ordinary member; £ 60 non- member. 6 places available Printing with metal foil: Bill Chambers Sunday 16 November 10.00 am to 4.00 pm Level: All Create your own unique shiny metallic Christmas cards to your own design. Use screen printing to apply your image to blank cards then heat press metallic foil onto the design to achieve rich and eye- catching results. Participants will need to supply their Christmas card designs 2 weeks in advance to allow for a full day's printing. The cost of this 1 day workshop is £50 full member; £55 ordinary member; £60 non- member. max 10 people (5 needed to run) materials £10 per person Personalised T-shirts: Bill Chambers Sunday 30 November 10.00 am to 4.00 pm Level: All Apply your own personal designs to T-shirts to make unique and desirable presents. The workshop will involve scanning drawn designs into the computer and cutting them into heat-pressable vinyl with the use of a computer driven plotter cutter. The T-shirts are permanent and many different designs can be made with little effort. Participants will be able to make at least 2 shirts during the day. They are also welcome to bring their own shirts or indicate sizes and colours in advance. The plate can be printed in a variety of ways and with different techniques such as blind embossing and chine colle.
