INTERNSHIP PROJECT

From November 2008 – August 2009 Swansea Print Workshop offered young people between the age of 16 and 25 free training opportunities.

Swansea Print workshop’s Internship program offered a closer look inside our organisation as a small, friendly artists’ studio specialising in Printmaking and gave  participants the opportunity to become involved in a wide variety of our activities.

Our Internship program offered a closer look inside our organisation and opportunities to become involved in a wide variety of our activities.

Arts Practice:

Participants gained an understanding of what is required to set up and run successful workshops for a wide client group. Printmaking workshops in cyanotype, collagraph, or photo screenprinting were offered to facilitate the production of original art work within a professional environment.

Arts Administration:

Participants were offered arts administration experience in events management such as exhibitions and artist’s talks, marketing and publicity, website development and any other tasks that contribute to the running of our organisation.

Swansea Print Workshop is a small, friendly artists’ studio specialising in Printmaking. It is an Open Access facility which means that it is available to all sections of the community.

This was a remarkable opportunity to take advantage of some free training and find out how useful experience and training as an intern can be to career prospects and future employers.

We are especially interested in working with young people who are considering a career in an Art and Design related area. We particularly welcomed young people to join us as interns as this provides them with varied work experience as well as giving them an excellent way of putting a comprehensive portfolio of work together.

We offered

  • experience of working within a business context

  • an understanding of the application of art and printmaking as a profession

  • the opportunity to learn printmaking skills

  • the opportunity to create your own artwork

  • free membership of the workshop for a year

  • a record of your activity to take away with you

  • training and materials at no charge

STUDIO ACTIVITIES

‘It has been really helpful in terms of the information and advice given for getting a job in the arts- whether in a business or self employed. Seeing how the business is run, what considerations have to be made, what tasks to be done and then having the opportunity to carry certain tasks out has been a great insight’.

Lianne Trendell, Internship Programme November 2008

‘I have gained practical experience of 3 different print techniques (for the first time)... I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of printmaking. Thank you so much for the opportunity’

Luke Bolch, Internship Programme November 2008
