CYANOTYPE Cyanotype is an attractive, simple technique which involves controlling how ultra violet light reaches a surface coated with a blue light sensitive emulsion. If the light is held back by a stencil, transparency or object, the area remains white.
The process involves mixing two chemicals to produce a light sensitive solution. This is then used to coat paper, wood or textiles. A negative or an object can be used to create a photographic image when exposed to sunlight or an ultraviolet light source. SPW have all the facilities for making cyanotypes.
A wide range of found objects can be used exploiting texture and shape with great subtlety. The emulsion can also be painted onto fabric for development as a textile piece. |
