Background
Born in Cheshire, I had a varied career but always with a creative
edge. I trained as a teacher and worked in the theatre and television
for many years followed by training and educational management.
Artist's Statement
My return to Wales in 2003 offered an increased
opportunity to pursue my various creative interests and love of the
natural worlds. I had always enjoyed discovering different media such as
pottery, sculpture, textile work, silver smithing, silk and water colour
painting etc. Etching had been a special love discovered over 30 years
ago. A chance idle moment on the computer in 2006 had me ‘googling’
etching classes and holidays and I discovered a couple of places
including a workshop in Tavistock and a course in Italy focusing on
woodcut and relief printing and etchings. A week in Devon followed by 2
weeks in the beautiful Piedmont district of Italy trying various
techniques re-inspired me and eventually led me to discover the Swansea
Print Workshop. My work has a natural feel frequently focusing on
landscapes, sea-scapes and flowers as I try to capture and portray an
essence. I am also exploring the ancient technique of mezzo tint which
produces a rich velvety black and a textured feel. |
