Background
Alison Porter was born in London, but now lives in Swansea where she
works at the University. Most of her higher education has been in
geography, but she took a detour into the art world by studying the
Foundation in Art and Design course at Swansea Institute.
Artist's Statement
Drawing is the starting point for all my printmaking. I
am interested in how colour and depth can be added to the drawn line
while still keeping its immediacy. In some way or another, everything I
do is portraits. I love everyday objects. I want to give them life in
pictures. I am fascinated by what it is in a picture that can capture
the essence of something or someone - a few little lines shifted one way
or another can make all the difference between an interesting
representation and something banal or irrelevant. I’m still practising.
