Background
My
first experience of printmaking occurred in 1960 when, as a student at
Swansea College of Art, I pursued courses in Lithography and Stained
Glass design. Whilst quite dissimilar crafts they nevertheless proved to
be a happy combination requiring particular symbiotic design skills.
After graduating in 1963 I taught in schools in Bournemouth and Swansea until my retirement in 1998. Throughout my art teaching career I incorporated various printmaking techniques in my art syllabus generally finding lino-printing to be most popular with my students.
Artist's Statement
My
own printmaking work over the years has been mainly in this medium and,
not surprisingly perhaps, has been somewhat influenced by my stained
glass training. Since my retirement I have continued to explore the
possibilities of the printed image striving to acquire new skills in
intaglio and woodblock printing and the exciting technique of collagraph
making.
Currently I still consider myself to be a student of printmaking in whichever medium I engage upon; always learning and, at the same time, improving.
