Artist's Statement
The grid and the square are significant in the work as they represent
divine order and the structure of the universe, which is being depleted
of its resources. Emptiness and the drive towards the universe’s gradual
decline are depicted through materials that are found in native Hunza;
un-carded sheep wool, bark, clay, jute and the land itself. The natural
materials incorporated break up the monotony of the grids, which are
architectural, mechanical and uniform in their visual nature. The
natural components themselves are also repetitive in structure and
composition and create a dialogue through their juxtaposition. |
