Swansea Print Workshop fine art studio

Alison Porter was born in London, but now lives in Swansea where she works at the University. Most of her higher education has been in geography, but she took a detour into the art world by studying the Foundation in Art and Design course at Swansea Institute.

Artist's Statement
Drawing is the starting point for all my printmaking. I am interested in how colour and depth can be added to the drawn line while still keeping its immediacy. In some way or another, everything I do is portraits. I love everyday objects. I want to give them life in pictures. I am fascinated by what it is in a picture that can capture the essence of something or someone - a few little lines shifted one way or another can make all the difference between an interesting representation and something banal or irrelevant. I’m still practising.
