DYLAN THOMAS PRINT PROJECT
Exhibition of
TWELVE ORIGINAL PRINTS Artwork can be seen in the Gallery In 2003, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Dylan Thomas, twelve printmakers from Swansea Print Workshop collaborated to create a box of twelve original prints in a limited edition of one hundred. Each artist used the poem 'especially when the october wind' as their starting point and stimulus to develop the images. The exhibition of the project toured extensively in Wales in 2003/4, [see exhibitions listings below] and most recently in Pakistan in 2007, where it accompanied Swansea Print Workshop’s Group Show, ‘51.34 North 1.46 West’, and the Contemporary Welsh Printmakers Catalogues for sale £2.50 + postage and packing. A PDF of the catalogue will soon be available. Further detailed information can be found on http://www.dylanthomasprints.com/ The Boxed Set The twelve handprinted images are loosely bound in a custom made box by the Fine Bindery, Northampton with tejo green cloth covers and embossed type and motifs. All prints are fully authenticated and the box contains a colophon signed by Aeronwy Thomas, Dylan Thomas's daughter.
Additionally the colophon contains a copy of the poem, an essay by the writer, poet and translator, Malcolm Parr entitled 'That Momentary Peace', in which he explores the links between genius, imagination and the written word. Malcolm Parr, who also opened the exhibition in The Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea, has individually signed each of these inserts, as has Andrew Davies, Assembly Member, Welsh Assembly Government, who wrote the foreword to this unique edition. A set of the prints has been given by the artists to The Dylan Thomas Centre where they will form part of the permanent collection and will be on display there from August 2003. The boxed set is also part of the continuing exhibition at the centre, ‘Dylan and the Bookmakers’. An exhibition centering on printers and printing, Artists and Illustrators. Both during his lifetime and after his death the work of Dylan Thomas, has proved attractive to the world of Fine Presses, Fine Printers, Artists and Illustrators. |
