WELSH LANGUAGE POLICY
Swansea Print Workshop is committed to the principles enshrined in the
Welsh Language Act 1993 to
treat Welsh and English on a basis of equality. It is
Swansea Print Workshop’s aim to enable everyone who receives or uses its
services to do so through the medium of Welsh or English according to
personal choice.
Statement of Intent
Swansea Print Workshop has, since its inception in 1998 delivered a high
quality, international, culturally diverse programme of activities and
events. During this time much of our administrative, publicity and
marketing services have been delivered through the medium of English,
this being the first language of the majority of the voluntary
management team, staff and other volunteers.
However where
resources through project funding have allowed we have published three
successful bi and tri-lingual publications.
Swansea Print Workshop
is now committed to comply with the best practices identified and
outlined by the Welsh Language Board
and has initiated the development of its own Welsh Language Scheme.
It is Swansea Print
Workshop’s intention to deliver an equally high standard of service in
both Welsh and English.
In particular, Swansea Print Workshop will:
-
Nominate a member
of the Management Committee to take lead responsibility for the
implementation and monitoring of the scheme regularly and ensure
that the targets and timescale for implementation are adhered to.
-
Ensure that the organisation is up to date with the
current principles of the Act
-
Regularly review and identify areas where bi-lingual
information can be produced
-
Actively seek funding for translation work to
increase the publicity and marketing material offered in the Welsh
Language. With the emphasis on Swansea Print Workshop’s Handbook and
Policies
-
Ensure that
wherever possible, the Welsh Language policy forms a part of any
funding or awards application
-
Ensure that the
Management Committee of Swansea Print Workshop monitor the quality,
implementation and consistency of its Welsh language service.
-
Aim to present a
fully bilingual identity, displaying its name (and address, where
appropriate) bilingually on all logos, headed paper and other
corporate materials and goods.
-
Aim to display its
name bilingually on all buildings that it occupies and on all signs
within those buildings where the use of language is necessary to
convey information. The format, size, quality, clarity and
prominence of the languages will be the same, and the languages will
be treated on a basis of equality.
-
That the
Management Committee and others responsible for recruiting staff
will assess the organisation’s needs for Welsh-speaking staff when
making appointments and will keep this aspect of recruitment under
constant review.
-
Where linguistic
ability is considered desirable for any post, this is specified when
recruiting to that post.
-
Will make it clear
when it wishes to recruit Welsh speakers by placing bilingual
advertisements for posts where Welsh is desirable.
-
Aim to offer
workshops and Artist’s talks in Welsh wherever possible
-
Ensure that
Swansea Print Workshop’s Welsh Language Policy will be prominently
displayed in the Workshop and on this Website
