SPW recognises the importance of minimising its impact on
the local environment and economising its consumption to minimise costs.
In its activities of providing a community resource in Fine Art
Printmaking, the company premises comprise press rooms, drawing studio
and darkroom, as well as office space, storage area display areas and
kitchen.
It is company policy to practice “the 4 R’s” (Reduce,
Reuse, Recycle, Rethink)
Swansea Print Workshop will, when possible, minimise
adverse effects on the local and global environment, and take action to
improve and enhance it. SPW will encourage its members, users, partners
in projects and contractors to adhere to the relevant aspects of the
SPW’s Sustainability Policy
Following from the
sustainability audit carried out, SPW’s
policies are as follows:
Reduce

Minimise the consumption
of gas by careful monitoring, the use of thermostats and turning the
central boiler off when not required

Minimising the
consumption of electricity by careful monitoring and the use of low
energy lighting where applicable

To turn off all
equipment and machinery when not in use

Keeping consumption of
water to the minimum
Reuse

All unwanted furniture
to be taken to Resurec for reuse

To reuse old clothing
and materials not suitable for charity shops for cleaning purposes

To reuse all paper
within the office, to use both sides

To save used postage
stamps for donation to charities for resale
Recycle

To use CCS’s kerbside
collection of glass, paper and plastics

To source recycled
products wherever possible

All defunct electronic
equipment to be taken for recycling
Rethink

To use environmentally
friendly domestic products such as Ecover cleaning materials

To source FairTrade/
locally sourced materials wherever possible

To encourage all
members, users and staff to use sustainable forms of transport eg
public transport, cycling, walking, car share

To always use benign
media in our printmaking processes

To keep abreast of the
technical profile of all our equipment and media for environmental
impact

practice annually to ensure commitment to continual improvement in
environmental performance

To comply with relevant
environmental legislation and implement any changes as required

environmental audit annually with the help of the Project Office/
Communities of the Environment Centre, Swansea
