HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY

As an organisation we are committed to operating in a clean and safe working environment.  Recent research over the past ten years by Edinburgh printmakers now provides a range of materials that are safe to use and offer increased creative opportunities over some traditional printmaking techniques which required the use of hazardous materials or chemicals.

As a policy we endeavour to make use of safe alternative wherever possible.  Personal protective equipment is always available to anyone taking part in any activity in the workshop, everyone must use this where appropriate.

Please note that the Print Workshop is a work place and is covered by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Please be aware that if you cause damage or injury, directly or indirectly, you may be liable under British law and face imprisonment or a fine.

This Health and Safety checklist is designed to make the Print Workshop as safe as possible. Please abide by these few simple rules.

  1. Signing in. Please make sure that you sign in or out. If there is an emergency, other people may not be aware that you are in the building or might be looking for you after you have left.

  2. Fire safety. Please note where the fire extinguishers are.
In the event of a fire, please leave your belongings and leave the building IMMEDIATELY through the entrance / exit onto Clarence Street. Gather at the bollards for a head count. A staff member or workshop leader will check the signing-in book and contact the Fire Brigade.

  3. Smoking.  Swansea Print Workshop operates a strict no smoking policy in the entire building. Please do not smoke directly outside the entrance on Clarence Street.

  4. Food and drink. Please eat and drink only in the kitchen area and clean up afterwards.

  5. Rubbish. Please keep the print studio environment clean to reduce the risks of clutter and rubbish.

  6. Extractor fans. These are located appropriately. Please make sure you know how and when to use them.

  7. Floor space. Please do not move furniture, or place items under or on worktop tables as the area has been designed to encourage access for all.

  8. Unsuitable equipment. Some materials and/or equipment that you bring may not be suitable for use in the print studio. Please check with a member of staff or workshop leader if you wish to use your own materials.

  9. Hazardous products. Some products and equipment used for printmaking are hazardous. These items are highlighted in your Health & Safety induction. Swansea Print Workshop will not be held liable for any damages resulting from the unconventional use of these or any other products.

  10. Health problems. Please let a member of staff or workshop leader know if you are pregnant or have any health problems, so that you may be offered advice and recommended precautions.
