DACE: UNIVERSITY OF SWANSEA Department for Adult and Continuing Education Swansea University has consistently used the Workshop as a venue for classes and as a source of workshop leaders in the visual arts through this department. They have commissioned a programme of access workshops which has been invaluable to the local community over a period of eight years. The programme supports the concept of progression and this has facilitated a good number of our users achieving considerable competence in their chosen techniques. As well as printmaking the programmes have included a comprehensive series of workshops based on learning to use photography in interesting and personal ways. Our Studio Manager introduced new techniques into their Adult Education programme with great success.
In 2006 the department also contributed to our Festival of Muslim Cultures Print Project. With support from MEWN [Minority Ethnic Women's Network] groups of Muslim women were located in the local community and invited to participate in a series of printmaking workshops.
The increased opportunities for exhibitions of a high standard has also reinforced our relationship with the Taliesin Arts Centre, Oriel Ceri Richards, which is part of the University. The University has also bought prints produced by children on the Festival of Muslim Cultures Project for their new buildings. Department for Adult and Continuing Education DACE specialise in giving people from a variety of backgrounds opportunities to study in a relaxed, friendly environment, at convenient local centres throughout South West Wales. With course options ranging from IT, Languages and History through to Environmental Studies, they are sure to have something that will appeal to your area of interest.
