Kara
Seaman

Originally from Scotland, Kara Seaman
graduated from the University of East London in 2002 with a BA in
Graphic Fine Art. Since moving to Swansea she has participated in
several community based arts projects with an emphasis on photography
and printmaking. Using the urban environment as a focus for new work,
observations and comparisons of difference have been made between the
layout and structure of the towns and cities in South Wales and the
lowlands of Scotland.

I find this contrast most interesting
and have begun to photographically document the houses and buildings
that appeal to me visually or culturally. I like to use texts and
textiles in my work and have found that by making cyanotype prints I can
mix photography with texts and textiles and the process enables me to
print on to a variety of media.
Over the last year I have also been
experimenting with new drawing styles and silkscreen skills to produce
prints relating to childhood and memory in a way I have never worked
before. This has given me a fresh outlook on my work and will continue
to experiment with silkscreen in the future.
